Really solid experience with Unity Restorations. They did exterior masonry work on our Queens building and the brick repointing came out clean. The crew was professional, the scaffolding was set up safely, and the whole job looked organized from start to finish. Hard to find a reliable masonry contractor in NYC, but these guys really came through. If you need brickwork, facade repair, or exterior restoration in Queens, I’d recommend them.

How do I know if my brick pointing needs repair?
Signs of deteriorating mortar include crumbling or missing joints, water stains on interior walls, efflorescence (white mineral deposits) on the facade, and visible cracks between bricks. If mortar is recessed more than ¼ inch, it’s time to repoint. We offer free inspections to assess your building’s needs.
Brick pointing (or repointing) replaces deteriorated mortar with fresh mortar to seal the joints. Tuckpointing is a decorative technique where two colors of mortar are used to create the illusion of fine, precise joints. Both services are available from Unity Restoration across NYC and Westchester.

How long does brick pointing last?
Quality brick pointing typically lasts 20 to 30 years, depending on exposure, mortar composition, and maintenance. Using the correct mortar mix is critical — mortar that’s too hard can damage the surrounding bricks. Our masons always match mortar strength to your specific brick type.
Minor repointing work on a residential building typically does not require a permit. However, larger facade restoration projects or buildings subject to Local Law 11 may require DOB filings. Unity Restoration handles all necessary permits and DOB compliance as part of your project.
